Lagos exposes 300 pupils, 100 Games Masters and Mistresses to Judo basics

As part of efforts to make Lagos State a Judo hub in Nigeria, the Lagos State Judo Association organized a 2-day Seminar for 300 Pupils, 100 Games Masters and Mistresses from 6 Education Districts and Divisions in Lagos State.

 

The Seminar, aimed at developing a Judo Sports Program to nurture discovered Talents amongst the participating Pupils to become International Judoka Champions.

 

Speaking during the two-day Seminar for Physical Education and Games Masters in Lagos Schools, the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi said promoting the sport among students is part of the ideal ways of popularizing the Sport.

 

The Ambassador described Judo as honorable discipline for the development of body and character.

 

Also speaking at the Seminar, the Chairman , Lagos State Judo Association, Sheriff Hammed disclosed that the Association hopes to make Lagos State a Judo hub, where many Champion Judokas would be discovered and nurtured to become international champions.

 

” We are aiming to make Lagos, a Judo hub in Nigeria”, he stated

 

“We are excited with the turnout and we are hoping that after the Clinic, we will start going to Schools to introduce Judo Club so that the Students can continue to be trained and exposed to the benefits of the sport. We hope and believe that with this kind of move, we can raise the profile of the sport and make Lagos the hub of the sport in Nigeria.

 

Director School Sports, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluyomi Oluwasanmi in her Lecture Paper titled ” Effective Child Coaching in Sports ” stated that Primary and Secondary Schools are where you can catch them young, adding that the skills impacted on the pupils will determine where they will go in life.

 

” Self defense is embedded in Judo” she concluded.
