Many budding talents have been discovered at the Phase 1, of the Lagos Sports Summer Camp organized by the Lagos State Government through the agency responsible for grassroots sports development and Sports in general, the Lagos State Sports Commission
The Phase 1 of the 3 Phase, 60 percent Sports and 40 percent Life Skills activities held at the Badagry Grammar School with participants from Public and Private Schools.
Participants were taken through Athletics, Basketball, Chess, Darts, Fives , Scrabble, Monopoly, Table Tennis, Teakwondo and Volleyball.
At the end of the day six of the seven day camping on Friday, 20th August, the budding talents were discovered are as follows, Table Tennis ( 13 boys ), Basketball (5 boys and 5 girls), Judo (5 boys), Monopoly (2 boys), Scrabble (3 girls and 1 boy), Ayo (2 boys), Darts (1boy), Chess (2 boys) and Teakwondo (2 boys and 2 girls).
Speaking with some of the Coaches at the Phase 1 of the Lagos Sports Summer Camp in Badagry, the Coaches commended the Lagos State Sports Commission for the innovation and agreed that it is good for grassroots Sports development in Lagos State.
According to Table Tennis Coach, Ganiu Kadiri, ” This initiative is good for grassroots sports development in Lagos State” and I can say categorically that I have discovered 13 budding talents here at this Camp which I am going to recommend for the Lagos State Sports Commission for monitoring and nurturing”.
” I am very hopeful that if the discovered talents are closely monitored and nurtured, future stars for Lagos State are going to emerge from them”. He said.
Basketball Coach, Alimi Olayiwola categorically stated that this Lagos Sports Summer Camp is a novel initiative that can assist Lagos State Basketball Association to have pool of young talents that can be nurtured to replace the aging athletes.
” I have pencilled down 10 talents here at this Camp (5boys and 5 girls). They demonstrated the skills needed to be a great basketball players in the future”.
